My Crabapple Trees

Thursday, May 16, 2019

When I was first planning my garden decades ago, I really wanted an orchard with lots of white crabapple trees, but it was WAY outside my budget. Determined, I went to a nursery on the North Fork of Long Island and bought 25 tiny saplings, each with two little branches. I was convinced they wouldn’t grow into full trees in my lifetime, but five years later - there they were - big, healthy, gorgeous crabapple trees covered in fragrant white flowers.  The two weeks when they bloom each year is my favorite time in the garden. Patience isn’t my strongest quality, but gardening has taught me lots of it!!
